It's time for the chemical industry to do its part.
Enough
is enough. Nearly seven years after Sept. 11, we’re all doing our part to
follow the new security rules, but most chemical plants haven’t even switched
to safer alternatives. This month, the House
Homeland Security Committee is working on a new bill to require chemical
facilities to do just that. Help us convince them. Petition Text: Nearly
7,000 chemical plants store dangerous quantities of acutely toxic chemicals. A
single accident or deliberate release of these toxics could kill or seriously
injure thousands.
We
know that safe, cost-effective alternatives to these toxic chemicals already
exist.
That’s
why I support a switch to these safer alternatives, which is the most effective
way to keep nearby residents and workers safe in the event of an accident or
attack.
Please
do everything you can to support a bill that would push back against the power
and influence of the chemical industry and keep us truly safe. The Chemical
Facility Anti-Terrorism Act would be a good first step in that direction.
Sincerely,
